Brian Walsh

Brian Walsh currently serves as the Deputy Secretary at the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) where he supports the Secretary and the DANR team as we work to achieve our mission. In addition, Brian directs a team responsible for DANR’s media relations, policy, agriculture mediation, boards and commissions, and special projects. Prior to taking this role, he worked for three years as DANR’s Public Affairs Director, 17 years as an Environmental Scientist at the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and two years as a Hydrologist with the Arizona Department of Water Resources. Brian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science with a Co-Major in Biology from Creighton University and is a 2010 graduate of the State Government Leadership Excellence Certificate program. Brian is married and has three adult children (two Coyotes and a Jackrabbit). In his free time, he enjoys watching football and is an amateur photographer.
